The Atypical Family (히어로는 아닙니다만)

Written by Joo Hwa-mi and directed by Jo

This show follows a quirky family who used to have superpowers but lost them because of modern life issues like depression, obesity, insomnia, alcoholism, grief, and loneliness. Without their powers, they face everyday struggles that affect them more profoundly than their former powers. It’s relatable and interesting to watch. Chun Woo Hee, known for her roles in “Be Melodramatic” and “Love, Lies,” continues to showcase her amazing versatility.

Talking about relatable topics like mental health struggles and family issues in a unique supernatural setting was really interesting. Another great example of this approach is the show “Moving.” When the characters lose their powers, it shows how people can feel restricted and powerless. However, in a personal note, addressing topics like obesity and shame in this context might be a little tricky. Mixing different moods and genres doesn’t always work smoothly; sometimes, humor and serious themes clash. Still, for those looking for something new in Korean dramas, “The Atypical Family” is worth checking out. It’s a heartwarming story about love, personal development, and family relationships, with captivating characters and impressive performances.
